Thursday Night

It was a good night for Young Adults this past Thursday. We missed all of you who were away on reading break. It just wasn't the same without you all (or y'all). But we had a good time still. We reached a turning point in our Bible study of Mark, the very middle of the gospel. After a bunch of miracles and food and Pharisees and stuff, Peter acknowledges for the whole group that they have come to the conclusion that Jesus is the Messiah. Took 'em long enough. But it is a moment. At this point, the gospel starts to take a turn and Jesus is now, more or less, on the road to the cross, his death. Mark does a neat thing to bring our attention to this turning point as well. I'm going to write it out here, because I'm excited about it and I'm a dork. Bear with me.

Chapter 6: 31-44 Feeding of the Multitude Chapter 8:1-9
Chapter 6: 45-56 Crossing of the Sea and Landing Chapter 8:10
Chapter 7: 1-23 Conflict with the Pharisees Chapter 8:11-13
Chapter 7: 24-30 Conversation about Bread Chapter 8:14-21
Chapter 7: 31-36 Healing Chapter 8:22-26
Chapter 7: 37 Confession of Faith Chapter 8:27-30

It's a neat thing that Mark does and it is essential for helping us understand the literary process of this Gospel. It was good to go through and exciting to see, for me anyway. The Gospel really does begin to focus on what it means for Jesus to be the Messiah. It was a good night.
