Service Time

This morning, or early afternoon because most of us don't like getting out of the house on Saturday before noon, we had a service project planned. Someone from our church had a storage space that they needed organized. She is a mother of two young children who had to move out of Chase as the property where she was living had been sold and all of the people living on it had so little time to move all of their stuff out. When they did move, they just threw everything into a storage space, expecting that the family would find a new place to live and move all of their stuff in. The people they were staying with offered for them to stay longer, so to get anything that they needed out of storage, it took so much time as nothing was organized. So, this afternoon, five of us met her at the church, went to her storage space and helped her organize it. It was a good time. It was a bit cold out as some weird cold-streak just came out of nowhere, but it was a fun time. The woman who was with us was so nice to. She got us Timbits and pop for us afterwards. The pop was a bit cold and didn't help to warm us up but we really appreciated it. It was good to be of help to someone who could not do this on her own. Huzzah!

Thursday Night

It was a good night for Young Adults this past Thursday. We missed all of you who were away on reading break. It just wasn't the same without you all (or y'all). But we had a good time still. We reached a turning point in our Bible study of Mark, the very middle of the gospel. After a bunch of miracles and food and Pharisees and stuff, Peter acknowledges for the whole group that they have come to the conclusion that Jesus is the Messiah. Took 'em long enough. But it is a moment. At this point, the gospel starts to take a turn and Jesus is now, more or less, on the road to the cross, his death. Mark does a neat thing to bring our attention to this turning point as well. I'm going to write it out here, because I'm excited about it and I'm a dork. Bear with me.

Chapter 6: 31-44 Feeding of the Multitude Chapter 8:1-9
Chapter 6: 45-56 Crossing of the Sea and Landing Chapter 8:10
Chapter 7: 1-23 Conflict with the Pharisees Chapter 8:11-13
Chapter 7: 24-30 Conversation about Bread Chapter 8:14-21
Chapter 7: 31-36 Healing Chapter 8:22-26
Chapter 7: 37 Confession of Faith Chapter 8:27-30

It's a neat thing that Mark does and it is essential for helping us understand the literary process of this Gospel. It was good to go through and exciting to see, for me anyway. The Gospel really does begin to focus on what it means for Jesus to be the Messiah. It was a good night.

Prayer Night

This past Thursday (which is when we regularly meet), instead of going through our study of Mark, we decided to have a focus on prayer. We had our regular announcements, pits & peaks and hang around time. After that, we sung and prayed with one another. This was our whole night. It was amazing. God truly does reveal Himself in simplicity and some of the most powerful times in His presence are when we are with one another, praying and listening. We prayed by ourselves, with small groups and for the issues in our church and our own lives. We didn't get as far as planned as we had wanted to pray for the city and country and world and whatever was laid on our hearts for that. If you have time, those of you are reading this, remember to pray. God listens and works.
