I encourage all of you to spend some of your summer to think about what that will look like for you personally - how you will reach out to the people you know next year? Here's a verse to help get everyone thinking....

But how can they call on him to save them unless they believe in him? And how can they believe in him if they have never heard about him? And how can they hear about him unless someone tells them? And how will anyone go and tell them without being sent? That is what the Scriptures mean when they say, "How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news" Romans 10:14-15

<?xml:namespace prefix = family /><?xml:namespace prefix = blockquotefamily /></blockquotefamily:georgia;"></family:georgia;">

</blockquotefamily:georgia;"></family:georgia;">

Update from Corrina at Hungry for Life

Here's an update from Corrina. Please continue to pray for her recovery, and pray for the ministry that she has through Hungry for Life. I think that we should also be praying for hearts that break when God's heart does, that we will feel our self centredness and self pity fade away as we focus on the things that Jesus cares about, that in the light of all the sorrow and sadness in the world that we will be compelled, both corporately and as individuals, to act, and that we too may say that we are blessed so that we can bless others.

From Corrina:

On The Home Front:

Over an entire week had gone by, filled with many ups and downs and a consistent flow of visitors that kept me company during my at-home recovery. The excruciating pain that I had dreaded, thankfully, was not my companion. Only my mild discomfort has been at my side throughout each day. While my addiction to Facebook (the latest and greatest in the internet world) had kept me up at night, it had not been enough of a distraction to keep me out of the pity party that I was throwing for myself since my surgery on Thursday, April 19. However, Sunday, 10 days after going under the knife, was a different day than the rest. In the warm sunlight and the cool breeze of spring, I sat outside in an attempt to finish a book I had begun the day before. This was not a novel or a fairy tale with a happily-ever-after ending. Even though I knew this collaboration of 12 essays on social justice was not for the faint-of-heart, I was unprepared for the harsh reality of its pages and my unprecedented response.

The book is entitled “The Revolution: A Field Manual for Changing Your World.” The previous afternoon, I had read the short forward and the introduction, with which I so deeply resonated. And as I moved from the chapters on clean water, gang violence and women’s rights to the chapters on hunger and HIV/AIDS my heart broke into more and more tiny pieces. The words were becoming blurry, not from the bright sunlight, but from the salty water flowing from both eyes and down the sides of my face. Pages describing real people, real situations, real pain—pain unimaginable to my comfortable, safe and secure life in Canada. As I sat on the lawn chair with my ice tea in one hand and Kleenex in the other, everything in me cried out with intense indignation, “How can I complain about my current situation (or any other situation in which I find myself) when there is so much needless suffering in my world—both here and over there?!”

I closed the book, knowing that I couldn’t read on any further for fear that my heart would just stop beating. I stood up to walk and in that moment God reminded me He has blessed me in order that I would be a blessing to others; my life is not about me. As I read this weekend and recounted my recent first-hand experiences of how “the rest of the world” lives, my burden is growing stronger and I am, now more than ever, compelled to act on behalf of the poor, the suffering, the sick and the marginalized. And the desires, dreams, wishes and wants of my own life, as trivial as they are, are fading away in the light of what God has called me to be and do.

“So how have you been doing since surgery?” you ask. Well, the chance to rest my body and engage in further soul-searching, it’s been life-changing to say the least. I desire to be a voice for those who have no voice; to fight for justice on behalf those who are oppressed; to show mercy and compassion to those in need. For in this expression of my faith in God, I will be evermore renewed in His image.

Prayer Requests:

Physical healing from surgery

Motivation to accomplish work from home

Spiritual renewal in this “slower” time

Thank you for your continued support; I could not do this without you!

Thursday April 26th

Well, for those of you who missed it, Thursday night was great! We had David Bracken share his music with us, and we definitely experienced God through his words and music. Jim spoke on outreach - why we do it and how we do it. Next year we will be taking one Thursday night a month and turning it into an outreach night; we will have a band and more evangelism based messages. This is something to bring your friends to!!! Next week we will be discussing other ways that we as a group can do outreach in Kamloops. Bring your great ideas! If there are any ideas that we can do that night, we will! As I drove across town to pick up a mysterious piece of mail, my mind was racing with “Who sent me something?” and “What could it possibly be?” As I signed for the Samarian’s Purse “Operation Christmas Child” shoebox, the questions remained unanswered. It was only when I raced home, dropped my things and franticly cut open the mass amount of packing tape that I realized a group of people took the time to bless me and encourage me in what God has called me to do! I want to tell you that all the treats and fun things reminded me of God’s goodness! I was having a particularly discouraging time, specifically planning my next trip to Kamloops, but God used your thoughtfulness to encourage my spirit and help me to see a bigger picture! I also want you to know that you are in my prayers as well. I look forward to seeing you at the end of March and sharing another wonderful evening together! Thanks again!! YOU ROCK MY WORLD!!!

Hockey Photos

Create Your Own

If any of you have other photos let me know and i will add them in!!!! Anna and I played a little Go Fish, and a little Care Bears Uno... then we packed up and went to Frankly Coffee. Allison and Erika joined us there and it was a happy gathering. You should all try it - games night that is - the next time we have one!
OK and there was supposed to be pictures here - but my computer is annoying - so when I figure out how to make them work I will post them - they're classics - you won't want to miss out!

We're Back

Young Adults is back. So, here are the highlights:

1) Monck Park

About 12 of us went camping. We had three spots, one double site and another single across the road. We were right by the bathrooms and pretty clse to anything else we needed. Our weather was okay, dry, but kind of cold and windy. The first day was a beach day but the second was too cold, even though about half of the group tried to force it. There were many games played (Taboo, cards, some quiz game) and many hot dogs and other sort of meat products eaten. On Sunday, we sang together and Anna shared with us from her life and her experiences as a counsellor for a week at Rough Acres up north. Then we prayed together. The day we left, it was, of course, beautiful so we didn't want to go, but we did. I got to drive my in-law's RAV-4 home and Amber and Chantal were in the car as well as mass amounts of dirty, smoky supplies. I had forgotten to check the gas gauge for most of the weekend and as we were about 30 or so kilometres outside of 'Loops, the gas light came on. Luckily, most of it was downhill and we were able to coast into the Verse for gas and rejoicing. It was a good trip. 2 grads came too. It was awesome.

Rough Acres: Myself, Anna (my wife), Anna Z, Heather, Brent and Heidi were privileged to join Robyn up at her beloved camp just outside of Houston. The four girls were cabin leading, I was speaking and Brent was helping out everywhere that he could. There were about 50 12-14 year old girls at the camp. It was an amazing week for everybody. We were able to meet some excellent people at the camp, both staff and campers, and start some great friendships. And the Spirit of God was moving at that camp. He used everything and everybody to reach these girls and more than half of the camp either chose to follow Jesus for the first time or get back on track and give themselves back to Him. It was awesome. Not restful, but refreshing.

Thursdays: Since I last reported, there has been BBQ's, hang outs and bowling. Those that I have been at have been fun and I assume (even though I wasn't there) that the others were good as well. I must say that I enjoyed bowling but that's because I love bowling and I'm decent at it. If anyone else has other memorable moments you would like to share, feel free. That's it.

Since Forever

It has been awhile since this "Blog" has been updated. I accept full blame for this lack of attention. So, I will try to do some summing up of what has been going on.

BBQ's: Anna and I hosted a BBQ at our house. So has Amber and Rob and Julie Aronowski. All in all, they have been a lot of fun. Good times to catch up on what each other are doing and whatnot. Events of note so far:

At the Aronowski's place, there next door neighbour's Jack Russel slipped through the fence, even though it had a cone on it's head, and started greeting people. In the midst of it's greeting, it dribbled pee on van der Ham's clothes. Pretty cool.

Really, I can't think about anything else.

Park: We've spent some time in parks. I missed one due to our churches annual general meeting, but the one I was at was a lot of fun. Mostly just hanging out again. I believe some people wandered down to the river to swim/wade. Others wandered through the water park for similar reasons. Some sports may have been experimented with. I am unsure.

Games Night: Last Thursday, we had a games night at the church. There were games of Uno, Spoons, Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix (with TWO dance pads) and more. We had one of our new members out, a recent grad by the name of Becca. She braved the game of spoons and was quoted saying, "You guys are way intense" or something like that. Promptly after saying that, she had to dive at the ground to get a spoon and instead of going for the spoon, actually began wrestling another young adult, incapacitating her enough so that Becca could reach the last spoon and not receive a letter. Yes, how intense we are.

Our camping trip to Monck Park (just outside of Merritt) is coming up shortly and a chunk of us are going to be heading up north to Rough Acres camp to help there for a week. As for Kamloops Wide Young Adults things, I have not heard of one since the week we were supposed to go bowling and no one showed up at the parking lot we were meeting at except for Heather. Instead of bowling, we just chatted for a while. If you do know of anything, or if Al is alive, let me know.

Summer Begins!

Here is the schedule as to what it is that we are going to be doing throughout the summer, just so everybody can check the blog if they are unsure as to where to go.

June 1st: BBQ @ Jim & Anna's: 6 pm

June 8th: Games in the Gym @ KAC: 7 pm

June 15th: BBQ @ Amber's: 6 pm

June 22nd: Hanging in the Park @ Riverside Bandshell: 7 pm

June 29th: BBQ @ Rob and Julie Aronowski's: 6 pm (First Night for Grads)

July 6th: Games Night @ KAC Fireside Room: 7 pm

July 13th: BBQ @ Smeaton's: 6 pm

July 20th: Hanging in the Park @ Riverside Bandshell: 7 pm

July 27th: BBQ @ Dave Curtis': 6 pm

July 29-31: Camping Trip to Monck Park (Merritt): Meet in church Parking lot @ 10 am on Saturday. A few of us had the opportunity to spend Wednesday evening with them. We have a great group of young people coming up behind us. But if y'all remember highschool is wasn't always the easiest thing in the world, so let's try and pray for the junior and expecially the senior high youth that attend KAC.

If you missed "March of the Penguins" on Thursday I suggest you watch it. It was a beautiful story of commitment against all odds. Its also amazing to hear the story and just think that God created the emperor penguins to make the same fascinating journey every year to bring their babies into the world. When watching the film and thinking about these things it's easy and a good opportunity to recognize that we have a creator who cares for us, who loves us and is completely, totally commited to us.

Better Late.....

Sorry that I haven't updated for a while you guys. It's that time in the semester that I rally don't feel like composing any more coherant sentances than I need to!!! But last weekend was busy and good, so I thought I should at least mention a few highlights!
Thursday night - Heather talked to the group about being Authentic; especially with each other. When we are authentic and open with each other we will be blessed by opportunites to pray specifially and purposefully for people in the group; what an awesome opportunity (The moral of the story "Pits and Peaks" is an integral part of our group). Heather did an awesome job of taking the topic back to what matters. She looked at the life of Christ and how he was authentic with the people around him. Thanks Heather.
Friday Night - Friday night began with Corrina's desert night. It was an awesome night! The work that Corrina does at Hungry For Life is really exciting! The desert night was followed by The Well, which once again was awesome. There was a bunch of us there, so if you didn't mangae to go ask around and we'll make sure you get to the next one!
Saturday Morning - We had a planning meeting at Jim and Anna's on Saturday morning. It was fun - you should come! Anyway looks like y'all are going to have a great summer (well as good as it can be without me; it will be tough, but I know you can get through it).
So I guess that's kind of the main points..... If I missed something you can comment about it.

Let's Decide

So Ummmm ..... It was fun. We had three lanes at Bowlertime on the North Shore and bowled two games a piece. There were some great games bowled by people. Drew Ham and a new girl that came with Robyn both bowled a Turkey (three strikes in a row, for those not up on bowling lingo). Brendan bowled a strike from between his legs, which was pretty stellar. And we had some newbie (or close to) bowlers who were breaking the hundred point mark, which is good. And there was exitement and fun had by the people who were there. We were loud and it was an exciting time. For those of you who weren't there, I will quote a line from the Canadian musical geniuses, Prozak. "Sucks to be you. I know, I know." You missed out. Hopefully, we'll see you out next time. But it’s forced me to step back and re-evaluate a little bit. What do I feel that the Jam Nights should be?
I thought this verse sort of summed it up well: “May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God.” – Romans 15:5-7 NIV
The Jam Night (the artist formerly known as Beauty for Ashes) is not meant to be about music, but about worship. The difference between the two is something that God is constantly teaching me. I hope that the evening can become a night focused on God, and our relationship with him through prayer and music, as we encourage one another and build relationships.
It’s not to be an evening solely for musicians, or even necessarily for Christians, but for those who are seeking, and are longing to know Him more. Would you come, and worship? “Glorify the Lord with me; let us exalt His name together.” – Psalm 34:3 NIV

Mountain Tops & Valley Bottoms

Wow - I thought Thursday night was just awesome! Here is a reminder of what we talked about...

We were looking at Mark 9:1-13 (The Transfiguration). The main point of these verses is that they let us know more about the identity of Jesus. Also it's important to note that the in verse 8 all that the disciples saw was Jesus. The we looked at three questions that helped to make sense of the verses:

1. Why Moses and Elijah?

Moses was the deliverer. Elijah was prophesied to come before Jesus. The show that the Kingdom of God has drawn near. Also Moses represents the law, Elijah the prophets and the disciples the church. This represents all of history at this point in time.

2. What's the deal with verse 1?

There are a few theories. It could refer to the resurection of Christ. It could also refer to Pentecost. But... why would Jesus say "some of you"? Perhaps this verse was referring to the transfiguration that was just about to take place.

3. Why does Peter say what he does?

Verse 5??? What the heck is Peter talking about now??? Peter wants to stay on the mountain top. We can relate to Peter. His while being longs for the fullness of God. But Peter can't do that. "The mountain top experiences are important. But we are not made for the mountain top. You and I are made for the valley. The mountain top experiences are all made to equip us for life in the valley" (Hans Peter Royer). We were reminded on Thursday that things don't really grow to well on the mountain top, but there is a lot of potential for growth in the valley. There is a path up the mountain that we can travel to re-ignite out passion. Travelling through the valley is necessary to get to the next mountain top!

Young Adults Service

I would like to put out a big THANK YOU to all of you who were involved with the Young Adults service this past Sunday. We looked at Mark 8:31-9:1. In these verses Jesus announced that he must die, which to put it mildly kind of shocked the disciples, who were probably expecting to be saved for the Roman rule they lived under. We spent a lot of time looking at verses 34-9:1. Jim told us how these verses may have been one of the hardest things for Jesus to say, but that it is essential that we spend time meditating on this. We split into groups and dicussed who Jesus was speaking to, what it says and what this means for us.
These verses were spoken to the disciples and the crowd that was gathered and they are extended to the early church and us. The verses all meant something to each of us, however they most of decided that they meant we have to make a choice each and every single day to sacrifice our wishes for what Christ has for us. These verses mean that we have to die to ourself every day! And they also mean that we may indeed have to die for Christ.
These were great verses and it would be good if we keep thinking about this and as Jim suggested it might be a good idea for us to evaluate our relationship with Christ and truly and honestly look at the things that might be in the way!

Brendon's Birthday

After young adult's on Thursday we headed over to Kelly O'Briens to celebrate Brendon's birthday! Someone from our church had a storage space that they needed organized. She is a mother of two young children who had to move out of Chase as the property where she was living had been sold and all of the people living on it had so little time to move all of their stuff out. When they did move, they just threw everything into a storage space, expecting that the family would find a new place to live and move all of their stuff in. The people they were staying with offered for them to stay longer, so to get anything that they needed out of storage, it took so much time as nothing was organized. So, this afternoon, five of us met her at the church, went to her storage space and helped her organize it. It was a good time. It was a bit cold out as some weird cold-streak just came out of nowhere, but it was a fun time. The woman who was with us was so nice to. She got us Timbits and pop for us afterwards. The pop was a bit cold and didn't help to warm us up but we really appreciated it. It was good to be of help to someone who could not do this on her own. Huzzah!

Thursday Night

It was a good night for Young Adults this past Thursday. We missed all of you who were away on reading break. It just wasn't the same without you all (or y'all). But we had a good time still. We reached a turning point in our Bible study of Mark, the very middle of the gospel. After a bunch of miracles and food and Pharisees and stuff, Peter acknowledges for the whole group that they have come to the conclusion that Jesus is the Messiah. Took 'em long enough. But it is a moment. At this point, the gospel starts to take a turn and Jesus is now, more or less, on the road to the cross, his death. Mark does a neat thing to bring our attention to this turning point as well. I'm going to write it out here, because I'm excited about it and I'm a dork. Bear with me.

Chapter 6: 31-44 Feeding of the Multitude Chapter 8:1-9
Chapter 6: 45-56 Crossing of the Sea and Landing Chapter 8:10
Chapter 7: 1-23 Conflict with the Pharisees Chapter 8:11-13
Chapter 7: 24-30 Conversation about Bread Chapter 8:14-21
Chapter 7: 31-36 Healing Chapter 8:22-26
Chapter 7: 37 Confession of Faith Chapter 8:27-30

It's a neat thing that Mark does and it is essential for helping us understand the literary process of this Gospel. It was good to go through and exciting to see, for me anyway. The Gospel really does begin to focus on what it means for Jesus to be the Messiah. It was a good night.

I'm Bored

Quick, name your favorite movie, book & food plus why.

Prayer Night

This past Thursday (which is when we regularly meet), instead of going through our study of Mark, we decided to have a focus on prayer. We had our regular announcements, pits & peaks and hang around time. After that, we sung and prayed with one another. This was our whole night. It was amazing. God truly does reveal Himself in simplicity and some of the most powerful times in His presence are when we are with one another, praying and listening. We prayed by ourselves, with small groups and for the issues in our church and our own lives. We didn't get as far as planned as we had wanted to pray for the city and country and world and whatever was laid on our hearts for that. If you have time, those of you are reading this, remember to pray. God listens and works.

Contest

We're looking for a name for the Blog.
